What Is SMS Nonwoven?
SMS stands for Spunbond–Meltblown–Spunbond.
It consists of three layers:
Spunbond layer + Meltblown layer + Spunbond layer
The outer spunbond layers provide strength, softness and durability, while the meltblown middle layer provides a finer fiber structure that can contribute to barrier and filtration performance.
This multilayer structure allows SMS nonwoven to achieve a useful balance between protection and comfort.

SMS Nonwoven vs. Single-Layer Spunbond
For applications requiring only basic lightweight coverage, standard PP spunbond may be sufficient.
However, when the product requires a combination of strength + breathability + barrier performance, SMS provides a more functional multilayer structure.
