What is the difference between non-woven fabrics and melt-blown fabrics?

Mar 12, 2023Leave a message

Both non-woven fabrics and melt-blown fabrics are textile fabrics, but their processing and manufacturing processes are different. Also, there are some differences in performance between the two fabrics. Compared with melt-blown fabrics, non-woven fabrics have different application scopes, and the main raw materials for processing the two are also different. Let’s take a closer look at all of these two.
1. The raw materials are different. Non-woven fabrics mainly use polypropylene pellets as the raw material for melt blown cloth, and melt blown cloth mainly uses polypropylene as raw material.
2. The functions are different. The former is moisture-proof, breathable, flexible, light in weight, non-combustible, easy to decompose, non-toxic and non-irritating, and recyclable; the melt-blown cloth has many voids, fluffy structure, good wrinkle resistance, and good filterability.
3. Different uses. Non-woven fabric has no warp and weft, easy to cut and sew, light and easy to shape, and is deeply loved by handicraft lovers.
Non-woven fabric is a kind of fabric that does not need to be woven. It only needs to arrange randomly arranged short textile fibers to form a network structure, and then strengthen it by mechanical, thermal bonding or chemical methods. The fibers are not woven one by one, but directly bonded together by physical methods. It breaks the traditional textile principle of non-woven fabrics, and has the advantages of short process, fast production speed, high output and low cost.
The melt-blown cloth is mainly made of polypropylene, and the fiber diameter can reach 1-5 microns. There are many gaps in the structure of the melt-blown cloth, which is fluffy and wrinkle-resistant, so it has good filterability, shielding, heat insulation and oil absorption, and can be used for gas-liquid filtration, isolation, absorption, masks, heat preservation, oil-absorbing materials, wipes and many other fields.
Using non-woven polypropylene resin as the main raw material, the specific gravity is only 0.9, which is only 3/5 of cotton, fluffy and feels good. It consists of thin fibers (2-3D) fused by points of light. The finished product has moderate softness and good handle. Polypropylene chips do not absorb water, have zero water content, and the finished product has good water repellency. Made of 100% fiber, it is breathable and the surface of the fabric is easy to keep dry and clean.
Non-woven fabrics can take advantage of small pores to purify the air, block bacteria and viruses, and are non-toxic and non-irritating. The product is made of raw materials that meet FDA standards, does not contain other chemical ingredients, has stable performance, is non-toxic, tasteless, and has no irritation to the skin. Polypropylene is a chemically inert substance that will not be eaten by insects, and can isolate bacteria and insects in the liquid from erosion; it is antibacterial and alkali resistant, and the strength of the finished product is not affected by corrosion.
In summary, compared with melt-blown fabrics, non-woven fabrics have faster production speed, higher output and wider application range. In addition to the difference from the meltblown cloth in the above aspects, it can also be distinguished from the air permeability and tensile strength.
